Accountable to: Operations Director

Role purpose:

We are looking for a dynamic, highly flexible and customer service-driven individual with experience of arboriculture, to join our team of tree surgeons and play a key role in developing the future of our growing company. As Operations Manager you will use your experience to oversee the day-to-day operations of our company. You will work closely with various departments to ensure efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

This is a senior and pivotal role in embedding the positive and forward-thinking ethos of the company. The successful candidate will continue to ensure we deliver best-in-class service to our customers, ensure effective management of our people and resources and be responsible for the operations arm of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships resulting in continued repeat business and responsible for growing our customer base.
  • Undertake client visits and quotes for prospective work, ensuring these are completed accurately, delivered on time and in line with the growth targets of the business
  • Effective liaison with local authorities (and other relevant partners) about jobs, completing and seeing through tree work applications and /or contractor requirements to deliver the job
  • Manage and lead the TBTS operations team (e.g. tree climbers, ground staff, drivers etc) ensuring we have the right skills, experience and customer focused mindset to deliver high quality work, in a safe way every time. This includes individual performance management (e.g. appraisals and feedback), developing a positive ‘can do’ culture in the team and identifying and meeting training needs
  • Ensure effective communication between clients, operational team leaders, support staff and the Company Director, ensuring efficient running of TBTS and all of its work.
  • Proactive and effective planning and resourcing of work, so that there is regular scheduling of jobs that meets the growth targets of the business
  • Lead and implement health and safety work programmes, as agreed with the Operations Director and in line with industry best practice. This includes risk management for all jobs as well as the overall operations risk management framework.
  • Manage TBTS resources in an effective manner, contributing to the financial efficiencies of the company

Personal Specification

Essential Desirable
Qualifications
  • No formal qualifications are required.
  • A clean current driving licence is a must.
  • Level 4 in Arboriculture or above (e.g. AA Tech.cert or equivalent)
  • Relevant Health and Safety qualification
  • Current First Aid qualification
  • Qualification in professional and/or people management
  • LOLER Assessor’s qualification
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage a team
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of environmental and planning law as relevant to tree works
  • Computer skills (e.g. email, document management etc)
  • Effective communication skills – verbal and written
  • Skills to manage conflicting priorities and manage workload
  • Effective team leadership and people management skill
Experience

Industry experience is essential. We pride ourselves on our ability to grow our staff and will provide the relevant training for the right person with experience in the arboriculture industry.

  • Proven experience in operations management or a similar role
  • Effective team leadership and people management skills
  • Organisational skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities and manage workload
  • Exceptional Customer service
  • 5 years’ experience in aboricultural industry
  • Experience of managing large scale contracts and clients
