We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Second Climber to join our growing team. This role offers variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to develop both technical skills and leadership experience within a supportive environment.

The Second Climber will work alongside the Lead Climber and ground team to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality tree surgery services. This includes climbing and aerial work, operating machinery, leading tasks when required, and ensuring excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities 

  • Carry out tree surgery, removals, stump grinding, and other related tasks to a high standard and in line with industry best practice.
  • Support the Lead Climber and step into a team leader role when required.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure safe and efficient completion of jobs.
  • Operate and maintain tree surgery equipment, vehicles, and tools.
  • Drive and coordinate vehicles between the yard and job sites when required.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and safety checks on equipment and vehicles.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols, including risk assessments for each job.
  • Contribute to the effective use of company resources and cost efficiency.
  • Keep industry knowledge and qualifications up to date through continuous professional development.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with relevant data and information governance laws.
  • Promote and uphold TBTS values: teamwork, respect, communication, great customer service, and accountability.

What we are looking for

  • Minimum 2 year’s experience in the arboricultural industry.

  • 3+ years’ experience in arboriculture.

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Current driving licence.
  • Relevant NPTC units: chainsaw maintenance, tree felling, climbing and aerial rescue, using a chainsaw from rope and harness.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of arboricultural best practice.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workload.
  • Experience maintaining tree surgery equipment (e.g., chippers, saws, ladders).
  • Professional, calm, and solutions-focused approach.
  • Team player with a commitment to continuous development.
  • Flexible and resilient, with a strong work ethic.

  • Competent with basic computer skills (email, document management).
  • Current First Aid qualification.
